Engagment Session: Chrystal and I!

I pulled out the tripod and the remote for this shoot in Elysian Park along the Hoboken waterfront. The process was tedious, it was difficult to know when the camera was actually going to take a picture. I also had some fun doing a few creative ring shots at home.

How do you think they turned out?

I meet up with Serah and Min in my old neighbor of Williamburg and shared a few drinks with them at their favorite watering whole: Hotel Delmano. The benefit of shooting in NYC is the beautiful settings you can find in almost any corner of the city. I realize the joy of being a photographer almost everyday in that I get to experience meaningful moments in peoples lives!

Engaged….Me!!!

How do you know if she’s the right one? How do you know when the time is right? You just do!!!! Last year was a pivotal year for me, I left a career to start fostering a passion and started a business in a recession. I realized that not only was I not alone in this journey of endless opportunities but that there was this one person, one love, that I could not do with out. Her name is Chrystal and I love her!

The girl.

Lifestyle Portraits

What are lifestyle portraits?

Lifestyle portraits are my approach to photographing individuals, couples, families and children. The process involves capturing images of my subjects the way they are naturally. This involves on location sessions at your home, in a park you often frequent and/or any place you are comfortable. The location and objects in the images help further the viewers of the images to understand the subjects from a holistic perspective of who they are at a certain point in time. Capturing interaction between my subjects, environment and objects is the heart of my photography.

Do you give directions during the sessions (ie what do I do, how do I know what to do)?

I prefer to facilitate my photography sessions. Most of my subjects are not used to being in front of a camera and may feel a weight to act or behave in a certain way, but my only expectation is for you to be you. I spend most of my sessions trying to get to know you, the more I know you, the more you know me, the more comfortable you feel and that’s when the images start to emerge. The best thing to be is yourself, I step in to give guidance to ensure that in each image is optimally composed. I believe the best images are raw and imperfect. By capturing our imperfect selves I find the perfect portraits, you as you are and I’ve never been disappointed!

What do I (we) wear?

This is really up to you, what you wear is another choice that adds to the portrait, I can’t tell you what to wear since I’m there to observe and compose a portrait of you. However, as guidance, I would recommend wearing solid colors and colors that complement eye color.

Engaged- Jill & Josh

Jill & Josh and I shot in the later afternoon in Hoboken. It was a perfect fall day, the air was crisp and comfortable and the light was amazing! Our journey took us to the 11th Street waterfront, the hutches of Bloomfield Street and a little cobblestones street between Washington and Hudson streets.
