Celebrating One Year!

It is hard to believe that one year has gone by so fast! Last year on this day we where married surrounded by our close friends and family. I am better with pictures then I am with words, here are few gracious words from some of our guests who signed our picture book at our wedding. But first, to my wife: Thank you for such an incredible year, I am looking forward to many more! I love you!

“Bobby and Christy- The day that we hoped for has finally come. Can’t tell you how happy we are to see you both so happy! We wish for you every moment of your marriage to be wonderful, however, when its not so wonderful your love will see you through the rough times. You need to let each other know everyday how much you love each other. Never take each other for granted. I do believe you were meant to be together. Just know that a whole new life has just begun. A Fig Tree Grows in Reidsville

Food is often part of many ceremonies and in particular wedding ceremonies. A Chinese wedding may include a tea ceremony, a Jewish wedding the drinking of wine and a Persian wedding the breaking of bread with a sword. There are many traditions that have a strong connection with food and which demonstrate the rich cultural world we live in and the people who live by those traditions.

We decided to include food as an important part of our wedding ceremony, and we made it our own. The love and joy of discovering, cooking and eating food has been a facet of our relationship from when we first met and has only grown over time. We both love figs, the fresher the better, and we had the idea of holding a brief ceremony to plant a fig tree the day before our wedding. The tree is now full of leaves and reaches up toward the sky. The tree lies in the front yard of my new parent in-law’s home (Richard and Debra in Reidsville, NC). In many ways the tree is a symbol of our relationship, it is our own but shared, it takes work, love and support from us and our family, and the better it is cared for the stronger and more fruitful it will grow. And we just can’t wait to sink our teeth into a rip fig in a few years!

Thank you to my brother Tim for capturing these moments that are so special to us.

I unwrap the 2 year old sapling fig tree for preparation for planting. (We ordered three trees, Italian Everbearing, Turkey Brown and Peter’s Honey, one of which we planted that day as part of the ceremony and the other late that week. We didn’t keep track of which one’s are which and are waiting for each to get larger so we can identify each varietal by the shape of the leaves and type of fruit).

Aperitivo: Sardinia Italy!

Chrystal and I arrive back safely and without delay last evening from our week in Sardinia, Italy. We luckily missed the impending ash cloud descending on Italy from the volcanic eruption in Iceland. I was so excited to share some images from our time on assignment at Casa Tuelada that I uploaded a few of the following. This will be the “Aperitivo” (The drink in late afternoon before a great meal), many more to come of this exclusive vacation villa as well as the portraits I took of the Bortolotti family!

My wife and I where on hand to support and enjoy the launch of a brand new on-line magazine for the green bride and groom. We were surprised to see our picture taken during the event in the latest issue. See Eco-Beautiful’s newest issue on line here, and there continually updated blog here. The event was held at 632 Hudson in the West Village (see my NYC locations guide here)

I am currently thoroughly evaluating my own business practices and carbon footprint and putting into place several meaningful changes that will help green my business, please stay tuned for an upcoming blog post on exactly what I’m doing.
