Engaged and engaging…Jen & Mike!

It was 39 degrees out when we started the shoot, raining sideways and incredible winds. However, there was nothing that was going to stop the warmth on this day between these two. After a brief battle with the elements in Maxwell Park on the Hoboken Water Front, we headed over to Anthony David’s Dining Room to complete the session, both one of mine and Jen & Mike’s favorite restaurants.

Lifestyle Portraits

What are lifestyle portraits?

Lifestyle portraits are my approach to photographing individuals, couples, families and children. The process involves capturing images of my subjects the way they are naturally. This involves on location sessions at your home, in a park you often frequent and/or any place you are comfortable. The location and objects in the images help further the viewers of the images to understand the subjects from a holistic perspective of who they are at a certain point in time. Capturing interaction between my subjects, environment and objects is the heart of my photography.

Do you give directions during the sessions (ie what do I do, how do I know what to do)?

I prefer to facilitate my photography sessions. Most of my subjects are not used to being in front of a camera and may feel a weight to act or behave in a certain way, but my only expectation is for you to be you. I spend most of my sessions trying to get to know you, the more I know you, the more you know me, the more comfortable you feel and that’s when the images start to emerge. The best thing to be is yourself, I step in to give guidance to ensure that in each image is optimally composed. I believe the best images are raw and imperfect. By capturing our imperfect selves I find the perfect portraits, you as you are and I’ve never been disappointed!

What do I (we) wear?

This is really up to you, what you wear is another choice that adds to the portrait, I can’t tell you what to wear since I’m there to observe and compose a portrait of you. However, as guidance, I would recommend wearing solid colors and colors that complement eye color.

Dorsey & Mom

Spending time with the Smith family and observing the many expressions and behaviors of 1.5 year old Dorsey, it’s easy to see the potential within all of us, especially when we are just starting out in life.

Introducting the Witt Family

I joined Olivia, her mom and dad, and their Boston Terrier, Gus, at their home. We were all stuffed from Turkey the day before so we headed out to Church Square Park in Hoboken for a leisurely stroll.
